The Ghana Police Service has arrested 32-year-old Abraham Awendok in connection with the disappearance and alleged murder of Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Esi Amuah.
Awendok, who worked as an errand boy for the couple, was arrested after investigations by the Police linked him to the couple’s disappearance and deaths.
Relatives reported the couple missing on April 22, 2026, after losing contact with them since March 23.
When investigators visited their residence, they found the house locked, while the couple and their Nissan Sunny vehicle were nowhere to be found.
The investigation was subsequently taken up by the Missing Persons Unit, Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and Crime Scene Management Team of the Ghana Police Service.
According to the Police, investigations led to the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice for Awendok, who had been traced to the United Arab Emirates.
He was subsequently deported from Dubai to Ghana on August 30 through a joint operation involving the Ghana Police Service and Interpol.
Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno confirmed the arrest during a press briefing on Monday, September 7, 2026.
He said Awendok confessed during interrogation to killing the couple.
The remains of Dr Amuah and his wife have since been recovered and deposited at the Police Hospital for autopsy.
The couple’s Nissan Sunny vehicle has also been recovered.
Awendok remains in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths and determine whether other persons were involved.
The Police have not indicated that any other suspect has been arrested in connection with the case.
