Maritime Authority Boss Advises Youth To Explore Opportunities In Maritime Sector

The Director of Maritime Services at the Ghana Maritime Authority, Mr. Kwabena Boakye Boampong, has asked senior high school graduates to take advantage of the available spaces in the maritime sector.

According to him, a global survey has revealed that the maritime industry is in short supply of talent, hence the need for more people to be trained in the field.

He said as a result, the Ghana Maritime Authority, in collaboration with the Regional Maritime University, has designed some courses in relation to the field of study.

Mr. Boampong further disclosed that the maritime business is a very lucrative one, which can be recommended to anyone aspiring to have a great career.

“Internationally, there is this research work which is always carried out to determine the shortages in human resources in the maritime sector. Last year, when the research was carried out, it was revealed that there were lapses in terms of the workforce. They actually need people to work with, but before that can be done, “the person needs to be trained,” he stressed.

Mr. Boampong disclosed that even the lowest person on the ship receives an amount of eight hundred dollars (USD 800) as their monthly salary.

He, however, admonished that anyone who has an interest in the maritime business or is jobless can take advantage of this and reach out to the Maritime Authority for a further and better understanding of the kind of work they wish to engage in.
