The University of Ghana has issued a stern warning to the general public against fraudulent attempts by individuals claiming ownership of portions of its land, particularly around the National Service Farms and the Papao boundary.
In a public notice released on April 8, 2025, the University disclosed that these individuals — reportedly from Osu — are falsely claiming that the Government has ceded parts of the University’s land to them. They are allegedly using these claims to deceive unsuspecting members of the public into purchasing land that is not for sale.
“The University wishes to state clearly that no part of its land has been ceded to any individual, group or community and no one has been authorised to sell land on its behalf.”
“The University’s lands remain its property and ARE NOT FOR SALE,” the statement emphasized.
The notice, issued by the Public Affairs Directorate, revealed that at least two people have already fallen victim to the scheme. The victims were reportedly advised to seek the University’s consent after purchasing the land — a consent the institution says it “has not granted and will not grant under such or any other circumstances.”
According to the University, one of these cases is currently being investigated by National Security, whose officials have visited the campus several times as part of their ongoing inquiries.
“The public is strongly cautioned to avoid dealing with anyone claiming ownership or authority to sell portions of the University’s land,” the statement warned.
“Persons who have been approached or believe they may have been defrauded are advised to report the matter to the University and the relevant security agencies immediately,” it added.
