The Auditor-General has announced a comprehensive payroll audit targeting all Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and subvented organizations operating under the Government of Ghana’s Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) payroll system.
The audit, which will span the period from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024, is set to include a nationwide headcount of all government payroll staff. This move is part of efforts to ensure accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.
In an official circular dated March 28, 2025, Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu emphasized the need for full cooperation from the affected entities.
“We would be grateful if the auditors are given unhindered access to all books, returns and other documents including documents in computerized and electronic form relating to the audit,” he stated, referencing Article 187(3) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 11(2) of the Audit Service Act, 2000.
All Ministries have been asked to notify their allied agencies and ensure they are prepared for the audit process. An appendix listing the required documents to be submitted during the audit has also been provided.
The Auditor-General expressed confidence in the cooperation of all relevant institutions to ensure the timely and successful completion of the audit.
