National Cathedral: Pentecost Tops Church Contributions; Catholic Church, ICGC, Lighthouse, Royalhouse Missing On List

It has emerged that the Church of Pentecost Headquarters has so far contributed GHC 700,000 of the GHC 2.2million raised from churches by the National Cathedral of Ghana since 2018.

In a list from the Secretariat sighted by The Sikaman Times, the church sent in sums of GHC 200,000 and GHC 500,000 in March 2020 and March 2022, respectively.

Other notable churches such as the Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church, Ghana Baptist Convention, Action Chapel, and local divisions of the Assemblies of God have all contributed various sums to the project so far.

Conspicuously missing from the list are popular church organisations such as the Catholic Church, International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Lighthouse Group of Churches, and the Royal House Chapel.

The reasons for the above churches’ non-contributions to the project since 2018 is yet to be determined.

While some social media users have praised the Church of Pentecost for contributing heftily to the project, a greater number have criticized the church for supporting an apparently non-essential project:

When I was looking for the church of pentecost, I only looked for the highest donation and behold, my expectations weren’t dissappointed. what! God bless all those who donated though.

“The church of Pentecost has contributed the most; a total of 700000…wow!! And my assembly doesn’t even have a place of our own to worship. Well I guess this Sunday will be the last I will pay anything in a form of offering/tithe.”

“So Presbyterian church of Ghana and the Church of Pentecost are seriously in support of this fraudulent Project?

No wonder I stopped going to church since 2020 😢💔“

Kwadwo Apraku@KwadwoApraku_

I am proud member of the church of pentecost

But our formal chairman following this unnecessary and less priority project make me sad

There are things that are more important than cathedral

What is the interest of the Church of Pentecost @thecophq in a National Cathedral tainted with corruption and impunity? A Pentecostal Church leading the charge in building a Cathedral? For what? Is it because @OpokuOnyinah is robbed into the Board of Trustees?

So church of pentecost can donate 700k and have members still begging?

Nyame som is not for the weak ampa

On Wednesday, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, who is also the immediate past Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, announced that the board intends to increase their efforts to get Ghanaians, including various church denominations, to contribute to the project. He revealed that the Secreriat has till date received about GHC 31.1 million from its fund-raising efforts.

According to President Akufo-Addo, the USD 350 million is in fulfillment of a pledge he made to God in the run-up to the 2016 elections.
