Marwako Food Incident: Marwako Destroyed Food Items During Investigations – FDA

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says that Marwako Fast Foods Limited has tampered with the process of establishing the real cause of the alleged food poisoning reported by some sections of patrons.

In a statement released on Monday, the authority stated that “The process to establish the root cause of contamination has been unfortunately hampered by the unapproved and unilateral decision of the management of Marwako Fast Foods Limited to destroy some of the food items while the investigation was in progress.”

The FDA, per their checks at the premises of the company, observed poor sanitation and hygiene practices in the food preparation areas. The storage facilities and handling practices of ingredients were also described as poor.

However, the FDA said it has applied the appropriate regulatory sanctions while monitoring the restaurant’s implementation of a corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plan to prevent future recurrence.

The statement further noted that catering services at the restaurant remained closed.

Last month, some patrons of the restaurant complained of food poisoning after eating food from their Spintex branch over the weekend.

Viral posts on Twitter and Facebook have accused the restaurant of churning out unwholesome food, causing stomach upsets.

The FDA later proceeded to gather samples of food from the eatery for further investigations and later halted operations of all their branches.
