Some scores of protesting students at the Islamic Senior High School at Abrepo in the Ashanti Region have been injured following a reported firing of tear gas by the police.
They have since been dispatched to the hospital.
According to reports, the students were protesting against the frequent vehicle knockdowns by staff and students after several complaints.
School authorities are yet to make any formal pronouncements on the matter, but the National Service has indicated in a telephone interview with The Sikaman Times that those who were injured by the tear gas are responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, parents whose children attend the school have moved in to have a first-hand look at the situation.
In a related development, the Ghana Police Service has said that calm has been restored to the school.
In a statement on Monday, signed by the Director-General in charge of Public Affairs, DCOP Kwesi Ofori, it said that the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, is visiting the school to assess the situation.
The statement was, however, silent on the allegations of tear gas firing by some police personnel.
