MobileMoney LTD, the mobile financial services arm of MTN Ghana, has dismissed recent social media claims suggesting that its systems have been compromised by a cybersecurity incident.
The company has assured customers that the MoMo platform is fully secure and that no funds have been lost.
In a statement released on Monday, MobileMoney LTD described the viral messages urging customers to withdraw their funds as “completely misleading, untrue and, in some instances, potentially mischievous.”
“We assure all our valued customers that the cybersecurity incident has not impacted on the operation or security of our mobile money systems,” the company said.
“No customers have lost any of their money as a result of the cybersecurity incident; our mobile money platform remains safe and secure, and customer funds are protected,” it added.
MobileMoney LTD emphasized that it operates under robust security protocols, which include end-to-end encryption, multi-factor authentication, and continuous monitoring to detect and prevent fraudulent activity.
The company also reaffirmed its collaboration with regulatory authorities, cybersecurity experts, and partner institutions to maintain the highest safety standards.
Recognising growing public concern, the company urged customers to rely only on the official communication channels of MobileMoney Ltd. and MTN Ghana for accurate information.
Customers were also reminded to protect themselves by not disclosing sensitive information such as passwords, PINs, or one-time passcodes (OTPs) through phone calls, texts, or emails.
