Next administration must prioritise enhancing competitiveness of Ghanaian products – Bawah Mogtari

The Special Aide to the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has admonished the incoming government to invest in policies that will make Ghanaian-manufactured products and services competitive and efficient.

In her recent tweet, she disclosed that Ghana has become an attractive investment destination for many manufacturing countries and international companies, hence the need to make investment policies for Ghana’s manufacturing industries.

“All traders desire a better trade environment, better engagement with the government, and access to better markets!” she stated.

Mrs. Joyce Mogtari furthered that she has the Ghanaian trade at heart because she was the former Head of Legal and Estates at the Ghana Shippers Authority for many years and also has expertise in international trade.

“I have closely collaborated with organisations such as the Ghana Union of Trade Association (GUTA), the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), and the Ship Owners and Agents Association of Ghana (SOAAG), among others, and represented Ghana in the Working Group on the Rotterdam Rules of the World Trade Organisation.”

“Everything trade is of great importance to me, as my work has primarily focused on providing training, facilitating negotiations, and promoting trade between Ghana and other countries,” she emphasised.

She also listed some challenges the trade unions in Ghana face that hinder their growth and make them irrelevant.

“From my professional perspective, some of the major obstacles that trade unions and associations face here in Ghana are mainly due to the government’s inability to protect local trade interests, unnecessary forex fluctuations, unfair competition, high interest rates, the influx of foreign traders, and high dependency on foreign goods and import duties and taxes.”
