The NPP has initiated processes to expel former Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, following comments he made in a recent television interview.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party said it had taken note of remarks by Prof. Frimpong Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, in which he described the NPP as a “fake party” and said he no longer considered himself a member.
“The New Patriotic Party has taken due notice of comments made by Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng… in which he described the Party as a ‘fake party’ and further stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the NPP,” the statement said.
The party said Prof. Frimpong Boateng also made “additional disparaging remarks” about the NPP and alleged that its 2023 presidential primary was influenced in favour of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
The NPP rejected those claims, describing them as “baseless and unsubstantiated.”
“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong Boateng’s unfortunate characterization of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” it said.
According to the statement, the party views Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s conduct and utterances as “highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party.”
“As a consequence, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process,” the statement added.
The statement was signed by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
