NPP National Organiser sues gov’t over termination of public service appointments

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has filed a writ at the Supreme Court of Ghana challenging the government’s directive to annul appointments made in the Public Services of Ghana after December 7, 2024.

Nana B is seeking several reliefs from the Supreme Court, including a declaration that the directive issued by the Office of the President on February 10, 2025, and signed by the Chief of Staff, is unconstitutional. According to him, the Chief of Staff lacks the authority to issue such an order.

Alternatively, if the court finds that the Chief of Staff had the authority, Nana B argues that the directive still violates Article 191(b) of the 1992 Constitution, which protects public servants from dismissal without just cause.

The writ also seeks a declaration that any annulments made by heads of government institutions following the directive are unconstitutional. Additionally, Nana B is asking the court to affirm that the President is obligated to uphold the constitutional protections under Article 191(b) and the Public Services Commission Act, 1994 (Act 4).

Furthermore, Nana B is requesting a prohibitory injunction to prevent heads of government institutions from annulling appointments made after December 7, 2024, along with other reliefs deemed just by the court and costs for legal expenses.

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice has 14 days to respond to the suit.
