The headmaster of Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon), David Odjidja, has called on alumni, corporate institutions, and other stakeholders to support efforts to address the school’s overcrowding challenges caused by inadequate social amenities.

Speaking at the school’s 86th anniversary speech and prize-giving day on Saturday, November 30, 2024, Mr. Odjidja highlighted how the lack of essential facilities negatively impacts academic activities.

He lamented the shortage of furniture, bunk beds in dormitories, and dining tables, which deprive students of conducive learning and living conditions.

“Nana Chair, since I came to this school, every speech and prize-giving day I mention this challenge, and like I promised, I will keep mentioning it until it is resolved,” he said.

Mr. Odjidja outlined critical needs, including additional dormitories, post-paid meters, a spacious assembly hall to accommodate over 5,000 students, staff accommodation on campus, 300 classroom desks, and 200 bunk beds.

Despite ongoing support from the government, alumni, the Presbyterian Church, and the PTA, he stressed the urgent need for more assistance.

The headmaster also made a passionate plea for the completion of halted projects, such as a new administration block and an e-library, which are crucial for enhancing academic work.

“I wish to make a passionate appeal to the sponsors of these projects to complete them in order so we can derive the intended benefits to support academic work in the school,” he added.

On the topic of student awards, Mr. Odjidja expressed concern about financial constraints limiting the ability to recognise multiple deserving students. Currently, only one student per subject is selected for awards, leaving many outstanding students unacknowledged.

“It has always been very difficult selecting students to receive awards here. But because of budgeting constraints, we are compelled to just select one,” he explained.

Mr. Odjidja urged sponsors to support the school in addressing these challenges, ensuring that the next generation of PRESEC students enjoys a more conducive environment for academic excellence.
