Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, has issued a stern warning to ministers and other political appointees to uphold discipline, accountability and respect for administrative procedures as the government continues with changes to its leadership structure.
In a notice addressed to all ministers and political appointees, Dr Mahama said President John Dramani Mahama remained committed to strengthening institutional leadership, improving coordination and ensuring that government appointees were aligned with the administration’s policies and priorities.
The warning comes against the backdrop of recent ministerial changes, the dissolution of selected boards and an impending reshuffle of chief executives of state institutions.
Dr Mahama said the developments reflected the President’s determination to ensure greater effectiveness across government and signalled that appointees would be held accountable for their conduct and performance.
“The President expects all Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Chief Executives, Board members and other political appointees to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, diligence, humility and respect for established administrative procedures,” he said.
He cautioned that conduct capable of undermining government cohesion, institutional authority or the implementation of government policies would not be tolerated.
According to the notice, the President would continue to assess the performance of appointees across all sectors and take further action where necessary to protect the effectiveness and responsiveness of his administration.
“Public office is a privilege and an opportunity to serve the Ghanaian people,” Dr Mahama stated.
He urged all appointees to cooperate with one another and remain committed to delivering the government’s mandate, while improving the living conditions of Ghanaians.
