Sports Ministry demands retraction, apology from Multimedia over “misleading” quote

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has issued a formal demand to the Multimedia Group Limited for the immediate withdrawal of a false statement attributed to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, and an official public apology across all its platforms.

In a letter signed by Bagbara Tanko, Head of Public Relations and Communications, the Ministry described the publication—which was widely circulated on Adom TV, Adom Online, Asempa FM, and affiliated social media pages—as “fabricated and misleading.”

The false quote, attributed to the Minister, read: “I will be involved in Black Stars World Cup call-ups, and selections will depend purely on merit and performance.” The Ministry clarified that the Minister never made such a statement during his appearance on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show or in any related interview.

“This is not an isolated occurrence,” the statement read. “Over the past few months, the Ministry has observed with concern a pattern of consistent misquoting, twisting of context, and deliberate misinformation by Multimedia brands regarding the Minister’s engagements.”

According to the Ministry, these repeated inaccuracies have “unfairly tainted public perception, stirred unnecessary controversy, and undermined the credibility” of both the Minister and the Ministry.

The Ministry has demanded that Multimedia withdraw the content immediately, issue a public apology across all its major channels, and conduct an internal editorial review to prevent future incidents.

“We appreciate the role of free and responsible media in our democracy,” the statement noted. “However, this responsibility comes with a duty to uphold truth, verify facts, and correct errors swiftly and publicly.”

The Ministry expects the required actions to be taken by close of business today, October 14, 2025.
