Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed as false a notice circulating on social media claiming that Ghanaians residing in Cambodia have been ordered to leave the country.
According to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Cambodian authorities have officially confirmed that no such directive has been issued. He noted that the Cambodian Ministry of Interior has also issued a public clarification describing the purported notice as “completely untrue.”
The Ministry stressed that the false notice has caused unnecessary concern among Ghanaian nationals abroad, but assured the public that diplomatic channels remain active in verifying and addressing such claims.
Mr. Ablakwa further disclosed that, even before the fake notice emerged, several Ghanaians in Cambodia had contacted the Ministry requesting assistance to return home. He said they are currently being supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ghana’s High Commission in Malaysia.
He revealed that between March and May this year, a total of 85 Ghanaians were successfully evacuated from Cambodia. An additional 76 nationals are currently in the process of being evacuated to complete the ongoing exercise.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to the welfare and protection of Ghanaians abroad, stating that citizen safety remains a top priority regardless of location.
“The welfare of Ghanaians anywhere in the world remains our priority,” he emphasized.
