Ghana has moved closer to a fully connected future with the launch of high-speed 5G internet, initially covering Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi.

At Friday’s launch event in Accra, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo highlighted the significant impact 5G technology will have on Ghana’s economy, education, and connectivity.

President Akufo-Addo celebrated this milestone as a pivotal step towards a digitally inclusive and advanced Ghana. He explained that 5G represents a major advancement in connectivity that aligns with Ghana’s vision to establish itself as a digital economy hub.

He expressed confidence that 5G will accelerate Ghana’s development agenda by integrating the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and data analytics into everyday life, with expected benefits across sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and more.

The president highlighted the potential of 5G to support Ghana’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing essential tools for expanding into new markets and scaling their operations.

He further expressed confidence that faster, more reliable internet would empower local businesses and create economic opportunities nationwide. He emphasized that 5G will serve as a driver of industrial growth, enhancing productivity and connectivity, especially in agriculture and manufacturing.

He assured that the rollout would include strong cybersecurity and data privacy measures to establish a trusted digital environment. He also reiterated that extending connectivity to rural areas remains a key focus, with plans to expand access to underserved regions by 2026.

“Let this day mark the beginning of a new era in our digital journey. One that leads Ghana to economic resilience, social inclusivity, and global competitiveness,” President Akufo-Addo said.

In attendance were the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and executives of Next-Gen InfraCo (NGIC), a key stakeholder in the rollout.
