Annoh-Dompreh urges halt to transition over disputed parliamentary election results

The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to pause the ongoing transition process over parliamentary electoral disputes.

He cited unresolved disputes over parliamentary election results in constituencies such as Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Akwatia, Suhum, and Fanteakwa North.

“Let me appeal to the outgoing president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. We know he has set in motion a transition process as a matter of course. We want to appeal to the president: he who comes to equity must come with clean hands, so the transition process should be halted,” Annoh-Dompreh said during a press conference on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

According to him, the Electoral Commission (EC) requires a secure environment to declare results in these key constituencies, and the transition process should wait until this is completed.

“The EC has made it clear; they need a secure environment to declare the winners in these constituencies. I appeal to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to halt the transition process until the EC finishes its work. President Mahama must also ensure his supporters remain calm during this critical time,” he added.

Tensions in Nsawam-Adoagyiri have escalated following allegations of irregularities in the December 7 elections. Annoh-Dompreh claims to have retained his seat by 210 votes based on provisional EC results, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) insists their candidate won.

In addition, Annoh-Dompreh denied accusations from the Eastern Region NDC Chairman, who alleged that he shot an observer, Richard Taboh, during a disturbance at the Nsawam Adoagyiri Collation Center. Annoh-Dompreh called the claims “entirely false” and urged the Ghana Police to thoroughly investigate the incident.

“It is the duty of the IGP and CDS to ensure a safe and peaceful environment. We must protect our democracy and prevent intimidation or violence,” he emphasised.
