The Office of the President has reiterated its policy barring outgoing ministers, deputy ministers, regional ministers, and other political appointees from acquiring government vehicles as the administration concludes its term.
This directive, first issued at the end of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first term in 2020, remains in effect as the President’s second and final term nears its conclusion.
Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, emphasised that the longstanding convention of allowing appointees to purchase one official saloon vehicle through valuation by the State Transport Company will not apply under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
“No official vehicle shall be acquired by any appointee of the current administration as the term concludes,” he stated.
To ensure compliance, all government vehicles currently in the possession of appointees must be returned to the Chief Director of their respective ministries no later than Friday, 3rd January 2025.
The directive applies to a wide range of political appointees, including ministers of state, special assistants, and members of statutory boards and corporations.
This measure, according to the Office of the President, is a testament to the administration’s commitment to accountability and prudent management of state resources. The Office has called on all appointees to strictly adhere to the directive, emphasising its importance in maintaining transparency and the integrity of governance.
The Jubilee House expressed confidence in the cooperation of all appointees in upholding this policy.
