President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated the need for African leaders to strengthen democratic institutions, ensure free and fair elections, fight corruption, and promote peace and stability to bolster economic growth.
Mahama made these remarks at the 3rd edition of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025, held at the Accra International Conference Centre in Accra.
This year’s Africa Prosperity Dialogues was themed “An Africa that’s industrialised, integrated, and inclusive.”
He highlighted the challenges facing Africa, noting that despite its natural wealth, youthful population, and technological advancements, the continent struggles with economic disparities, infrastructure deficits, and structural barriers.
Mahama emphasized the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which has the potential to create the largest trade area in the world.
However, he stressed that trade alone is not enough and that investments in infrastructure, sports, and connectivity are necessary.
Mahama also urged Africans to transition from producing raw materials to producing finished goods, promoting industrialisation and value addition.
