The Asogli State in the Volta region is reported to have rejected a donation from the MP for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, on the occasion of the latter’s Yam Festival, citing the lawmakers’ “unbecoming” behaviour.
This rejection generated heated discussions on social media for alleged bad faith that the Asogli State, headed by Togbe Afede XIV, exhibited towards Mr. Agyapong.
While some socialites shared letters to show that Hon. While others asserted that the invitation was not in his personal capacity, but in his position as the Board Chairman of Ghana Gas Company Limited. Others still chide the lawmaker-turned-businessman for “disrespecting” the renowned chief over the years with aspersions and criticisms.
You DONT disrespect our KING and go there to pay homage to him just cos you want to lead a corrupt NPP. Kennedy Agyapong should know his limit.

You officially write to invite a Person to come and witness your festival or whatever with his presence and blessings but when he obliges and decides to make a donation in support of the said program ,you reject it?

Responding on Monday to the invitation letter to Kennedy Agyapong that was trending on social media, Secretary to the Asogli State, Tetteh, indicated that his secretariat caused a blunder in sending the invitation to the Hon. Agyapong on the backdrop of “several loose comments and utterances he made that the council viewed as unbecoming of an Honourable Member of Ghana’s Parliament.”
He noted that the invitation to Hon. Agyapong was upon his request to participate in some of the programmes associated with the festival.
“The Honorable Mr. Kennedy Agyapong requested, through his representatives, an invitation to attend some programs of the Asogli Te Za (Yam Festival)”
“In view of the above, I accept responsibility for the administrative lapse which resulted in the sending of an invitation to Mr. Agyapong. I apologise to both the Asogli state and Mr. Agyapong,” Mr. Tetteh pleaded.
Meanwhile, Togbe Agede has bemoaned the lack of development and poverty that have bedeviled the country, given the amount of resources at its disposal.
“Our economic problems predate COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war. We are lucky to have so much of all the mineral resources in the world and so much of the world’s arable lands, yet we cultivate so little and we remain poor, and the worst part is that we are so indebted,” he argued.
