Ghana has taken a major step forward in its digitalisation agenda with the launch of the CitizenApp, a digital platform that consolidates all digitised public services.

The app, designed to streamline interactions between the government and the public, was officially launched on Monday by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in Accra, with representatives from various state institutions in attendance.

The CitizenApp is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance public service delivery through digital innovation.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Bawumia, who is leading the government’s digital transformation drive, described the app as a “bold leap forward” for the country.

“The CitizenApp is a comprehensive digital platform designed to centralise and enhance interactions between the government and citizens,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“With this single, user-friendly platform, we are consolidating public services to enhance efficiency, accessibility, and convenience for all citizens and residents of Ghana.”

The app offers a wide range of services, allowing users to pay utility bills, settle local assembly fees, obtain digital addresses, book intercity transport, and even update personal information such as a name change after marriage—aall from a mobile phone.

A key feature of CitizenApp is its data interoperability, which enables seamless communication between government agencies. Dr. Bawumia explained that this system reduces bureaucracy and improves the speed and quality of public services by eliminating the need for repeated paperwork.

“Through CitizenApp’s data interoperability system, we are creating a digital framework that links all government agencies, allowing data to flow seamlessly between them. This will streamline data sharing across agencies and make government services more efficient,” he said.

The CitizenApp has been designed to serve Ghanaians throughout their lives, starting from birth.

Dr. Bawumia noted that parents can now apply for birth certificates through the app without the hassle of multiple visits to government offices.

“From the moment a child is born, parents can now apply for a birth certificate with ease, without the need for multiple trips to government offices. The digital system allows for faster processing, giving parents more time to focus on their newborn instead of worrying about paperwork.”

He said as individuals grow, the app continues to support them by providing access to services such as passport applications, job searches, and more.
