The Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors has called for calm and measured public commentary amid ongoing investigations in Ghana’s petroleum sector involving the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
In a press statement issued in Accra on April 8, 2026, the Chamber said it had taken note of recent developments linked to actions by the OSP within the downstream petroleum industry.
While acknowledging the seriousness of the matter, CBOD emphasized the need for caution to avoid reputational harm to companies that may not be directly involved.
“As the umbrella body representing Bulk Oil Distributors (BDCs), Petroleum Terminals and Refineries, the Chamber wishes to clarify that matters relating to petroleum taxes, as currently being discussed in the public domain, are generally incidental to the operations of the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and not Refineries, Petroleum Terminals or BDCs,” the statement noted.
The Chamber underscored that premature or speculative commentary could have far-reaching consequences for businesses operating within the sector, particularly those with both local and international trading and financial relationships. It warned that reputational damage at this stage could be difficult to reverse, especially if subsequent investigations exonerate affected entities.
“Given the preliminary nature of the issues, the Chamber respectfully underscores the importance of measured and restrained public commentary to safeguard the reputation and operations of the companies involved,” CBOD stated.
The statement also called on all members and Petroleum Service Providers (PSPs) who may be subjects of the investigation to fully cooperate with the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
It further urged stakeholders and the general public to allow due process to take its course and refrain from drawing premature conclusions.
“We urge all stakeholders and the public to allow due process to take its course and to avoid premature conclusions that could have unintended consequences for businesses and the broader industry,” the Chamber added.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and integrity, CBOD pledged its support to the OSP and other law enforcement agencies in their investigations.
The Chamber also expressed readiness to assist in enhancing understanding of operations within the downstream petroleum sector.
