In a major breakthrough against cyber-enabled crime, the Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, in collaboration with the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), has arrested 36-year-old entrepreneur Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng.
The East Legon resident was apprehended on May 6, 2026, following allegations of non-consensual sharing of intimate images and online sexual exploitation.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, May 12, CID Director-General Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor revealed that investigations linked the suspect to a Telegram platform known as “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.”
Commissioner Donkor stated that Boateng allegedly frequented nightclubs throughout 2025, where he used alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax, to “sedate unsuspecting female victims before sexually abusing them, recording the acts, and sharing the content online without their consent.”
During the operation, police seized a cache of digital evidence, including iPhones, a MacBook, and storage devices, alongside empty sachets of alprazolam and midazolam.
While the electronic devices have been retained for forensic examination, the medicinal sachets are being verified by the Food and Drugs Authority.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed that the suspect has already been arraigned before the court as investigations continue.
Reaffirming their stance on digital safety, Commissioner Donkor noted that the service remains committed to “tackling online sexual exploitation and abuse,” urging the public to report any suspected cases through official channels to ensure justice for victims of such predatory cyber crimes.
