CFLE Africa leads nationwide campaign on estate and gift planning this October
SharePostSendShareSend

Every October, the Centre for Financial Literacy Education Africa (CFLE Africa) and its strategic partners lead a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about estate and gift planning — a subject that is often overlooked but is critical for protecting families, securing legacies, and building a sustainable future.

This month-long campaign is dedicated to educating individuals, families, businesses, and institutions on the importance of planning for the orderly transfer of assets, ensuring financial security, and leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Why estate and gift planning matters

Estate and gift planning is more than just writing a will. It involves making informed decisions about how assets — whether property, money, or investments — are managed, transferred, or given during one’s lifetime or after passing. Without proper planning, families often face avoidable disputes, financial losses, and broken legacies.

Through this campaign, CFLE Africa aims to:

  • Promote financial literacy and empower people to make sound estate planning decisions.

  • Break the myths and fears around conversations on death, inheritance, and giving.

  • Encourage individuals and organizations to embrace philanthropy as a tool for community transformation.

  • Create a culture of long-term wealth preservation and legacy building.

Activities during the month

Throughout October, a variety of activities will engage different segments of society and make the campaign truly nationwide:

1. The National Estate and Gift Planning Awareness Conference 2025

The highlight of the campaign is the National Estate and Gift Planning Awareness Conference, scheduled for Friday, 17th October 2025, at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), Accra.

The third edition of this flagship event will bring together policymakers, legal experts, financial professionals, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, students, the media, and members of the public to discuss:

  • Effective estate planning strategies for individuals and families.

  • Business succession planning.

  • The role of insurance and trusts in legacy building.

  • Tax incentives and philanthropy.

  • How estate and gift planning can promote national development.

The conference provides a unique platform for networking, learning, and influencing policy in Ghana and beyond.

2. Community outreaches

To make estate planning accessible at the grassroots level, CFLE Africa will organize sensitization programs across towns and cities. These sessions will provide families and community members with practical, relatable insights on estate planning and gift giving, helping them overcome cultural barriers and misconceptions.

3. School outreaches

The campaign also targets the younger generation through visits to high schools and tertiary institutions. These sessions will introduce students to financial literacy, wealth creation, and the importance of early planning. By planting these seeds early, CFLE Africa aims to nurture a generation that understands the value of legacy and financial security.

4. Media engagements

The conversation will be amplified nationwide through television, radio, newspapers, and digital platforms. Media engagements will bring expert voices and real-life stories to the public, sparking dialogue and inspiring action.

A look back at previous events

In past editions, October — Estate and Gift Planning Awareness Month — has recorded significant impact:

  • Hundreds of participants have attended the national conferences, gaining insights from leading voices in law, finance, and philanthropy.

  • Community engagements have reached families across different regions, breaking down barriers to estate planning.

  • School outreaches have inspired young people to take ownership of their financial future early.

  • Partnerships with institutions such as the Ghana Association of Banks, the Financial Awareness Foundation, KPMG Ghana, GhanaThink Foundation, Deloitte, the Chartered Institute of Bankers Ghana, Ghana Bar Association, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Axis Pensions, educational institutions, and various nonprofits have strengthened the campaign’s reach and sustainability.

These achievements demonstrate the power of collective effort in changing mindsets and building a culture of financial responsibility.

Call for support and partnership

As we mark October 2025 as Estate and Gift Planning Awareness Month, CFLE Africa extends an open invitation to:

  • Corporate organizations – to partner in driving financial literacy and supporting employee-focused estate planning education.

  • Nonprofits and foundations – to collaborate in promoting philanthropy and community giving.

  • Schools and universities – to host awareness sessions for students.

  • Media houses – to amplify the message and make estate planning a national conversation.

  • Individuals and professionals – to attend, share knowledge, and take actionable steps in securing their own legacies.

Together, we can secure today and safeguard tomorrow.
