The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has disbursed GH¢2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) to facilitate payments to cocoa farmers for cocoa purchases made across the country’s cocoa-growing regions.
The latest release forms part of COCOBOD’s ongoing efforts to ensure that farmers receive prompt payment for their produce. Since the start of the 2025/2026 crop season, the Board has paid a cumulative GH¢34.52 billion to LBCs to support the purchase of cocoa beans from farmers.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Department on July 2, 2026, COCOBOD disclosed that approximately GH¢1.4 billion of the newly released funds has been earmarked to settle outstanding payments owed to farmers whose cocoa was purchased on credit.
The Board said it is collaborating closely with Licensed Buying Companies to ensure that all outstanding payments are made without delay. It added that monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to track the disbursement process and ensure that the funds are paid directly to the intended beneficiaries.
“COCOBOD acknowledges the patience, resilience, and understanding demonstrated by cocoa farmers during this challenging period and wishes to assure all cocoa farmers that no farmer will be denied payment for cocoa legitimately sold through the approved cocoa purchasing system,” the statement said.
The Board advised farmers with outstanding payments to contact the Licensed Buying Company through which they sold their cocoa to facilitate the settlement process. It reaffirmed its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure that every outstanding obligation is fully honoured.
According to COCOBOD, the release of the funds reflects the government’s continued commitment to protecting the livelihoods of cocoa farmers while maintaining confidence in Ghana’s cocoa marketing system.
The Board also reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding farmers’ interests and ensuring they receive the full value of their produce.
