The five-member committee established by President John Dramani Mahama to investigate three petitions filed against the Chief Justice will commence its hearings on Thursday, May 16, 2025.

Chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, the committee was constituted under Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution, following the President’s consultation with the Council of State and a prior determination that a prima facie case exists.

The committee’s mandate is to conduct a thorough inquiry into the allegations raised in the petitions and submit its recommendations to the President at the end of the proceedings. The committee is expected to sit three times a week until the conclusion of its work.

Speaking on the matter, the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, confirmed the commencement of hearings and reiterated the President’s commitment to upholding constitutional processes and ensuring transparency in the administration of justice.
