The Ministry of Education has invited the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to an urgent meeting on Monday, October 12, 2026, to resolve the ongoing strike action.

The meeting is expected to provide a platform for constructive dialogue between the parties towards an amicable resolution of the impasse.

In a press statement dated October 11, 2026, the Ministry said the government remained committed to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and constructive engagement.

“Government remains committed to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and constructive engagement,” the statement said.

The Ministry also urged all parties to approach the meeting in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, considering the effects of the industrial action on students, university communities and the broader national interest.

It called on GAUA leadership to use the meeting as an opportunity to pursue meaningful engagement with the relevant stakeholders to facilitate an early resolution of the dispute.

“Government urges the leadership of GAUA to seize this opportunity for meaningful engagement and work collaboratively with the relevant stakeholders towards an early resolution of the impasse,” the statement added.

The Ministry expressed optimism that the meeting would produce a positive outcome and enable affected tertiary institutions to resume normal academic and administrative activities.

“Government remains hopeful that the meeting will yield a positive outcome and facilitate a swift return to normal academic and administrative activities across affected tertiary institutions,” it stated.
