Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, on Monday, October 6, 2025, reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to assist with ongoing investigations following a petition filed against him by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.
Jakpa, a key figure in the ongoing ambulance procurement case involving Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is accusing the former Attorney-General of misconduct and what he describes as an attempt to “fabricate evidence” during his tenure.
In his petition dated September 23, 2025, and addressed to the Director-General of the CID, Jakpa alleged that Mr. Dame had tried to influence him to testify “in a particular way so as to dishonestly, wickedly and without an iota of conscience implicate Dr. Ato Forson and also lie to the court by procuring a false excuse duty,” an act he claims amounts to a criminal fabrication of evidence.
Mr. Dame appeared at the CID headquarters in Accra in the company of several lawyers who pledged their support. Speaking to journalists, one of them, lawyer Kobby Amoah, emphasized the principle of due process.
“We are here to support the former Attorney-General, Godfred Dame. There is a presumption of innocence, so anyone who has been accused of wrongdoing remains innocent until proven guilty,” he said.
He added, “We are all aware why he’s here about certain allegations that have been made against him flowing from the Ato Forson trial. We are here to support him and to prove his innocence. So far, it’s been good; we are following the regular processes.”
Mr. Jakpa, in his petition, urged the CID to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that Mr. Dame “faces the full consequences if found culpable.”
