News has emerged suggesting that Rosemond Obeng, a former executive within Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, has been appointed as a presidential staffer under President John Dramani Mahama.

Obeng, who publicly defected from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) shortly before the 2024 general elections, previously served as the national coordinator of TESCON, the tertiary wing of the NPP.

Her defection made headlines after she openly criticised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership credentials, asserting that he lacked the qualities required to lead the country.

Although there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency, social media posts and event fliers circulating online appear to show Obeng participating in official functions under the title “Presidential Staffer.” These suggest she may have been serving in the role for some time without a formal announcement.

The reports have sparked mixed reactions within NDC circles, with some sympathisers expressing disappointment and frustration on social media. Critics have questioned the government’s loyalty to long-time supporters and foot soldiers, many of whom, they argue, continue to struggle for recognition and opportunities.

The Presidency is yet to issue a formal statement regarding Obeng’s reported appointment.
