Former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been summoned before the disciplinary committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly defying a directive issued by the party’s leadership.
A statement signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on March 20, 2025, indicated that Ms. Safo’s recent media engagements, particularly on Joy News’ Pulse program, were in violation of party instructions aimed at maintaining internal harmony and safeguarding the party’s image.
“As she is aware, the directive explicitly states that all party members must refrain from discussing internal matters in a manner that fosters discontent, negativity, and division in the media and other public forums,” the statement read.
The statement further emphasized that her comments were not only in defiance of the directive but also detrimental to the party’s ongoing rebuilding efforts. It noted that, given her previous roles as an MP, former Deputy Majority Leader, and Minister of State, Ms. Safo was expected to uphold party discipline and unity.
“Her failure to adhere to this standard not only reflects poorly on her but also constitutes a breach of Article 3(5) of the Party’s Constitution, which mandates members to uphold and defend the good name of the party,” it added.
Consequently, Ms. Safo has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action.
The NPP recently issued a directive cautioning members against making public statements that could deepen divisions within the party following its loss in the last general election.
Signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the directive acknowledged the frustration and disappointment among party members but urged them to exercise restraint.
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) recognizes the distress and emotional turmoil stemming from our recent electoral defeat. Many members have voiced their grievances on various platforms, but we urge all party faithful to remain calm and allow for sober reflection,” the statement read.
Citing provisions of the party’s constitution, the directive reminded members of their duty to uphold the party’s reputation. It highlighted Article 3(5), which calls on members to “promote and defend the good name of the Party.”
To enforce compliance, the party leadership at all levels—national, regional, and constituency—has been instructed to refer any member who disregards the directive to the appropriate disciplinary committee for necessary action.
