Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has provided an update on progress made on the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway project, describing the ongoing preparatory works by the Ghana Armed Forces as “phenomenal.”
In a social media post on Thursday, Dr. Forson disclosed that approximately 51 kilometres of the entire project stretch had so far been successfully cleared as work continues on what government has described as a transformational national infrastructure initiative under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, the Ghana Armed Forces are playing a key role in the initial stages of the project, with assessments currently being undertaken by relevant state agencies ahead of compensation payments to affected residents.
“So far, about 51km of the entire stretch has been successfully cleared,” Dr. Forson stated.
He added that compensation payments to persons affected by the project would begin in June following the completion of ongoing assessments.
“In June, following assessments by the relevant state agencies, the Ghana Armed Forces will commence the payment of compensation to affected citizens,” he noted.
Dr. Forson further praised the pace and professionalism with which the preparatory works are being executed, saying the project would become one of Ghana’s most strategic and economically transformative transport corridors.
“Steadily, deliberately, and with remarkable professionalism, the foundation is being laid for what will become one of Ghana’s most strategic and economically transformative corridors,” he wrote.
The proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway is expected to improve connectivity between Ghana’s two largest cities, ease vehicular congestion, facilitate trade and movement, and support economic activity along the corridor.
“The progress made so far is truly impressive,” the Finance Minister added.
