The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has commended Ghanaians for the peaceful and successful conduct of the 2024 general elections, held on Saturday, December 7.

The Association described the election process as a testament to the maturity and resilience of Ghana’s democracy.

In a statement signed by National President Efua Ghartey and National Secretary Kwaku Gyau Baffour, the GBA extended its appreciation to the Electoral Commission, the Diplomatic Community, security agencies, polling station agents, and election observers for their roles in ensuring the integrity and transparency of the process.

“The events during and after the voting processes are a testament to the maturity and resilience of our growing and highly-guarded democracy,” the statement read.

The GBA also congratulated all citizens who participated in the elections for their commitment to shaping Ghana’s future.

“Your exceptional enthusiasm and commitment to shaping the future of our beloved country is deeply appreciated,” the Association said.

Special recognition was given to the candidates, with the GBA applauding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his “timeous concession” and congratulating President-Elect John Dramani Mahama on his victory.

“Indeed, the good people of Ghana have overwhelmingly spoken in his favour,” the GBA noted, expressing hope that the President-Elect will continue to champion Ghana’s democratic principles.

The GBA condemned reports of violence, including gunshots that led to the deaths of some individuals, and extended condolences to the affected families.

The Association also appealed for an end to all forms of lawlessness, including property destruction and attempts to take over offices.

The GBA urged security and law enforcement agencies to address any violations promptly, calling on all Ghanaians to safeguard the unity and peaceful coexistence that define the nation.
