Independent presidential aspirant Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has touted the introduction of the National Friday Wear programme as one of his several achievements.

In a social media post on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, Mr. Kyerematen noted that while serving under President Kufuor in 2024, he pioneered the programme.

In 2004, I introduced the Friday Wear during my tenure as Minister. The whole objective was to get us as a people to be proud of what we produce...and to give a strong stimulus to the textile industry, our tailors and seamstresses.

According to him, the programme has since provided a boost to the local textile industries and fashion designers while also becoming a source of national pride.

“In 2004, I introduced Friday Wear during my tenure as Minister. The whole objective was to get us as a people to be proud of what we produce…and to give a strong stimulus to the textile industry, our tailors, and seamstresses.”

“Ever since “Friday Wear,” it has become a source of national pride and created thousands of jobs,” the former Trade and Industry Minister said.

Mr. Kyerematen, who resigned from the New Patriotic Party in September 2023, has expressed his intention of contesting the 2024 general elections under the Movement for Change, a group he founded himself.
