Thirteen fire tenders have been mobilised from across Greater Accra to combat a raging fire at Kantamanto market in central Accra.

The fire, which erupted around 1:00 am, has devastated numerous shops within the Kantamanto Railways area.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly, deploying five fire appliances from Makola, Greater Accra Regional Headquarters, National Headquarters, Flagstaff House, and Parliament House.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was contacted to cut power to the area, ensuring safer firefighting operations.

As the blaze persisted, three additional fire tenders from Circle, Trade Fair, and Dansoman joined the effort, raising the total to eight within an hour.

Subsequently, two more tenders from Abelenkpe and Kasapreko were dispatched, bringing the total to ten.

Firefighting reinforcements continued with tenders from Tema Regional Headquarters, Madina, and Legon, culminating in 13 appliances at the scene.

By 6 am, GNFS personnel were still actively battling the inferno, five hours after it began, as efforts to contain the situation intensified.
