Stephen Kwabena Boateng, popularly known as Kessben, has died at the age of 68.
The Ghanaian businessman, lawyer and philanthropist reportedly died after a period of illness.
His death has been reported in Kumasi and across the Ashanti Region, where he built a diversified business group spanning media, education, financial services, hospitality, logistics and other sectors.
Born on September 12, 1957, Boateng was raised in North Suntreso in Kumasi and went on to establish himself as a prominent private-sector figure over a career spanning more than three decades.
Business and professional legacy
Boateng was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Kessben Group of Companies, with interests in several sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
In the media industry, he was associated with Kessben FM, Kessben TV and Aseda TV. He was also the sole shareholder of Kessben FM Limited.
In education, he founded and served as Chancellor of Kessben University College.
His business interests also included financial services and hospitality. He held majority shares in Multi Credit Savings and Loans Ltd. and established the Fosua Hotel and Conference Centre.
The Kessben Group also operated businesses including Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Kessben Computer School, and Kessben Shipping and Forwarding Ltd.
Beyond his business activities, Boateng was involved in philanthropic and civic initiatives.
He served as a member of Ghana’s National Peace Council from 2004 to 2010, contributing to efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the country.
Tributes have since begun emerging from the business, media and political communities following news of his death, with many reflecting on his contribution to Ghana’s private sector, media industry and public life.
