The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) says it has arrested three people in connection with the attempted importation of approximately five million tramadol tablets with an estimated street value of GH¢100 million.
In a statement, the Commission said the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation at the Accra International Airport after officials intercepted a shipment believed to contain the illicit pharmaceutical drugs.
NACOC said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect public health and national security.
According to preliminary investigations, the consignment was intended for distribution within Ghana and possibly other countries in the sub-region.
The Commission said investigators suspect the seizure is linked to a wider drug trafficking network and that further investigations are underway to identify other individuals connected to the operation.
“The recovered tramadol tablets have been secured as evidence, while forensic and documentary examinations continue,” the statement said.
NACOC reaffirmed its commitment to disrupting drug trafficking syndicates and prosecuting those involved.
The Commission also appealed to the public to support law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
The three suspects are expected to be put before the court after investigations are completed, in accordance with Ghana’s narcotics laws.
