Outspoken Assin Central MP and presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has picked the first position in the party’s ballot for the main presidential polls on November 4, 2023.

The party revealed in a statement that after an “interactive session” with the aspirants on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, they reached an agreement on the modalities for the November 4 election.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia placed second on the ballot, while Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addain Nimoh placed third and fourth, respectively.

“The Presidential Elections Committee will release the details of the agreed guidelines and modalities for the November 4 elections in due course. The committee is grateful to the contestants for their continuous cooperation and collaboration”, the statement added.

The four contestants were in the top 5 after the party’s special delegates conference on August 26, although the party had to choose between Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh for the 5th position.

Not later has the party’s National Council decided to vote to choose between the two than Boakye Agyarko stepped down, accusing the party of impropriety in allowing the National Council to decide between them as against the original delegates who voted in the first round.

This party confirmed Francis Addai Nimoh as the fourth person, accordingly.

However, last week, another key contender, Alan Kyerematen, exited the race, citing bias and maltreatment of his agents.

Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Agyapong have been persuading local-level members of their party, popularly called the grassroots, to vote for them in the main elections.

Earlier in the week, Kennedy Agyapong dispelled rumours that he would withdraw his candidacy in support of Dr. Bawumia.

Owusu Afriyie-Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh are the least favourites in the contest.
