The National Association of Nzema Students – Ghana (NANS – GH) has condemned a recent statement by gay rights promoter Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo that some Nzema culture supports homosexuality.

The association described the remarks as misleading and disrespectful.

In a statement, the association said, “Nzema culture, marked by its rich traditions and historical significance, does not support the inaccuracies put forth by Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo.”

“Our cultural values are founded on respect, understanding, and a celebration of diversity, and any misrepresentations threaten to erode the integrity of our identity,” the statement added.

NANS-GH accordingly demanded an immediate retraction and apology from Prof. Gadekpo while impressing on Nzema traditional authorities to publicly condemn her statement in the spirit of correcting the said inaccuracies about their people and upholding the sanctity of their cultural heritage.

“It is important to note that our condemnation is not an attempt to stifle discourse or limit academic freedom. However, we emphasise the need for responsible and accurate representation, especially when discussing the cultural practices of distinct communities,” the statement furthered.

Below is the full statement from the The National Association of Nzema Students – Ghana
