Parliament has acknowledged reports that the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, is currently being held at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

In a short notice shared on Facebook, the Parliamentary Service stated that the issue had officially come before the House, adding that steps were being taken to ascertain the facts and circumstances surrounding the matter.

The communication, issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, explained that the Speaker of Parliament together with the leadership of the House had initiated contact with Ghana’s diplomatic representatives in The Hague regarding the incident.

According to the statement, parliamentary authorities had been informed that the legislator had been stopped and detained at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

Parliament further indicated that the Rt. Hon. Speaker and leaders of the House were liaising with officials at Ghana’s mission in The Hague to obtain comprehensive information about the situation.

No explanation was provided regarding the cause of the detention, how long the lawmaker had been in the Netherlands, or whether any legal accusations had been made against him.

Officials also did not clarify whether the MP had travelled on parliamentary duties or for personal reasons at the time of the development.
