Mobile money operators across Ghana are regaining a sense of security following recent police operations that led to the arrest of armed robbers targeting agents and their customers, the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MoMAG) has said.
In a statement issued on Thursday, MoMAG commended the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Ghana Police Service for what it described as “swift and decisive action” in tackling a wave of attacks that had raised concerns within the mobile money sector.
“The promptness, vigilance, and proactivity demonstrated by the Police Administration have brought relief and renewed confidence to thousands of mobile money agents,” the group noted.
Mobile money agents have increasingly become targets for armed criminals in recent months, threatening not only their safety but also the delivery of essential financial services, particularly in underserved communities.
MoMAG emphasized that the police intervention comes at a critical time when anxiety among operators had reached worrying levels.
According to the group, the arrests signal a strong commitment by law enforcement authorities to protect lives, secure businesses, and maintain public order. “The recent successes… demonstrate the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to safeguarding lives, protecting businesses, and maintaining law and order,” the statement said.
MoMAG further urged the police to sustain the momentum by intensifying security measures to deter future attacks.
At the same time, it called on mobile money agents to remain vigilant, comply with safety protocols, and work closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
The group expressed optimism that continued collaboration between operators and law enforcement would provide lasting protection for agents, enabling them to operate without fear and continue supporting financial inclusion nationwide.
MoMAG reiterated its appreciation to the IGP and his team, encouraging them to “keep up the excellent work in protecting our communities.”
