A significant transition is underway at the management level of the Electoral Commission (EC) following the confirmed resignation of the Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Services, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, alongside the retirement of another senior commissioner.
Addressing journalists at Monday’s media briefing, the government announced that Dr. Bossman Asare will officially vacate his post at the end of July 2026. Unlike other recent high-profile departures, the senior EC official provided a clear timeline and justification for his exit, citing a desire to return to his roots at the nation’s premier tertiary institution.
The transition comes at a critical time for the electoral management body, which is also processing the replacement of another long-serving commissioner, Mr. Samuel Tettey.
“I can also confirm that he has submitted a letter to His Excellency the President indicating that, effective 31st July 2026, he would resign his position as Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.”
“He gives a reason for his resignation, which is that he wants to go back to academia and pursue his career as a staff member of the University of Ghana, and conveyed his thanks and appreciation to the President and the people of Ghana for giving him the opportunity to serve in that capacity,” he said.
The Presidency stated that arrangements to fill the vacancy are already underway, noting that a new nominee has been forwarded to the Council of State for consideration to ensure operational continuity at the Commission.
