Ghanaian authorities in charge of education say the opening date for senior high school entrants across the country remains Monday, December 4, 2023.

Parents and other stakeholders raised concerns about the commencement date, which is only a few days away from the release of school placements for the students.

Earlier, parliament added its voice to the calls for postponement of the opening date, citing the financial burden it will bring on parats.

However, the Ghana Education Service (GES), in a press release issued on Saturday, December 2, 2023, affirmed that the reopening date as stated on the placement forms remains Monday, December 4, 2023.

The GEC asked for patience as it continued to streamline the academic calendar back to normal.

“We continue to ask for your patience to ensure the academic calendar for SHS is implemented without hitches in order to get back to the pre-covid academic calendar,” the release stated.

According to the release, there will be a Christmas break from December 21, 2023, to January 3, 2024, with academic activities resuming and continuing until March 5, 2024.

The GES urged students who have yet to complete the self-placement to do so promptly.

Below is the statement from the Ghana Education Service.
