The YAFO Institute has extended its congratulations to Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, Executive Director of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), following his appointment as Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee by President John Mahama.

The Institute described the appointment as a significant milestone for civil society and the Ghanaian community in their quest for a more ideal constitutional framework.

“This monumental achievement marks a turning point, not just for you but for all civil society organisations and the Ghanaian community,” the YAFO Institute stated in a congratulatory message.

The institute highlighted Professor Prempeh’s reputation as one of Ghana’s finest legal minds, emphasising his unwavering dedication to strengthening democracy and good governance.

“Your remarkable leadership, commitment to service, excellence, and outright competence have not gone unrecognised,” the statement read, adding that his years of experience at the Ghanaian Bar and his ability to navigate complex legal issues made him an ideal choice for the role.

Expressing confidence in his leadership, the YAFO Institute affirmed its belief that Professor Prempeh’s work would lead to historic reforms. “We have no doubt that this endeavour will birth an exemplary and transformative constitutional reform,” the Institute noted.

It also urged the chairman and his team to address flaws in the 1992 Constitution while incorporating the views of Ghanaians.

The YAFO Institute pledged its support to the committee, underscoring the importance of collaboration among civil society organisations in fostering a more robust democracy.

The Institute further expressed optimism about the committee’s success under Professor Prempeh’s guidance, emphasising his strength, wisdom, and tenacity.

“We look forward to your stellar execution and excellent performance on this critical charge.”
