The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, on Wednesday, April 8, commenced the distribution of medical equipment worth GH¢1.5 million to selected health facilities across the district, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and advancing plans to upgrade local facilities.

The items, which include anaesthetic machines, patient monitors, centrifuges, blood pressure apparatus, and weighing scales, were officially presented at the Manso Amenfi Health Centre, the first beneficiary facility under the distribution exercise.

The initiative forms part of the MP’s broader agenda to support the transformation of the Manso Amenfi Health Centre into a fully-fledged district hospital, addressing long-standing gaps in healthcare infrastructure within the area.

Presenting the items on behalf of the MP, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Peter Amponsah, urged the District Health Directorate and healthcare workers to ensure proper use and maintenance of the equipment to maximise its impact on service delivery.

He also called on stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), companies, and philanthropists, to support efforts to upgrade the facility into a standard district hospital. He noted that the district, with a population of over 130,000, continues to face significant challenges due to the absence of a district hospital.

The District Health Director, Mr. Ganiyu Kantamah, expressed appreciation to the MP for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. He commended the vision to upgrade the facility, stressing that the lack of a district hospital in Amenfi Central places considerable pressure on existing health centres.

He assured that the equipment would be put to effective use to improve healthcare delivery in the district.

The Chief of Wassa Manso Amenfi, Nana Hyia Agyemang III, also commended the MP for the initiative, noting that the donation reflects her commitment to improving healthcare even without waiting for external support. He prayed for the successful realisation of her vision to upgrade the facility into a hospital and encouraged health workers to ensure proper utilisation of the equipment.

Nana Agyemang III further appealed to government and the Electricity Company of Ghana to ensure a stable power supply to health facilities in the district, warning that unstable electricity poses risks to patients and the effective operation of medical equipment.
