GCB Bank PLC has announced the appointment of Farihan Alhassan as its new Managing Director, with his tenure set to begin on 28 January 2025.

This follows the resignation of the former Managing Director, Mr. John Kofi Adomakoh, who had led the bank since November 2020.

Mr. Alhassan’s nomination, approved by the Board of Directors, underscores GCB Bank’s commitment to strategic leadership and operational excellence.

His appointment is, however, subject to final endorsement by shareholders at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting and regulatory clearance from the Bank of Ghana and other relevant authorities.

Farihan Alhassan brings over 17 years of experience in banking and finance, with a remarkable track record of transforming businesses and driving sustainable growth. Most recently, he served as Head of Business and Commercial Clients at Stanbic Bank Ghana, where he spearheaded the growth of the bank’s balance sheet from under $20 million to $400 million and transformed the retail banking unit into a profitable segment, contributing 35% to the bank’s profits. His expertise spans strategy development, risk management, and customer-centric financial solutions. He has also held key leadership roles at Absa Bank Ghana and CAL Bank.

Mr. Alhassan holds an MBA in Finance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, an MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana, and a BSc in Mathematics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

In a statement, GCB Bank expressed confidence in Farihan Alhassan’s ability to lead the institution into a transformative period, leveraging his extensive experience and innovative approach to banking.
