The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has directed the management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to immediately reverse a decision suspending the employment contracts of all staff, insisting that workers should disregard the directive.
The intervention follows a circular issued by GDCL announcing the temporary suspension of employment contracts for all staff, effective July 1, 2026, pending what the company described as a “comprehensive assessment.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry said it had taken note of the circular and strongly opposed the decision.
“The Ministry takes a very strong view of the directive and IMMEDIATELY instructs Management to reverse that decision. All GDCL staff are to disregard the directive,” the statement said.
The Ministry also expressed solidarity with employees affected by the devastating floods that struck parts of southern Ghana on June 29.
“At a time when staff have been personally affected by the June 29th floods, the Ministry stands with its staff and the staff of all our Agencies,” it stated.
According to the Ministry, the management of GDCL has been summoned to a meeting on Thursday, July 2, following a recent visit by the Minister to assess the impact of the flooding on the Centre and businesses operating within its premises.
The statement noted that the meeting follows the Minister’s inspection of the facility on Tuesday, June 30, where he assessed firsthand the extent of damage caused by the floods.
The Ministry did not provide further details on the reasons behind GDCL’s initial decision to suspend staff contracts but indicated that the matter would be addressed during the meeting with the company’s management.
