A final poll on the NPP’s upcoming flagbearer contest, conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, shows Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerging as the clear front-runner in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 presidential race among committed party voters.

The survey, released on Friday, January 23, 2026, places the former Vice President well ahead of his rivals, with 48% of respondents indicating firm support for his candidacy.

According to the poll results, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is the closest challenger, polling 25%, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong follows with 6%. Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum secures 1%, and Kwabena Agyei Agyapong records 0% among voters who say they have committed to a specific candidate. A sizeable 21% of respondents declined to disclose their preference, highlighting a significant segment that could still influence the direction of the contest.

The findings suggest a consolidating advantage for Dr. Bawumia at this stage of the race, particularly among party supporters who describe their choice as settled. However, analysts caution that the relatively high proportion of non-disclosing respondents points to lingering uncertainty and the potential for shifts as internal party campaigning intensifies.

Regional dominance

The regional breakdown released by Global InfoAnalytics reinforces Dr. Bawumia’s national lead, with the former Vice President topping the poll across all 16 regions. He posts especially commanding margins in the North East Region (80%), Northern Region (64%), and Upper West Region (67%), while also leading decisively in traditional strongholds such as Ashanti, Greater Accra, Eastern, Central, and Western Regions.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s strongest regional performances are recorded in the Central Region (46%), Eastern Region (44%), and Volta Region (40%), where he mounts his most competitive challenge. Dr. Bryan Acheampong registers modest but notable support in regions including the Eastern, Savannah, and Northern Regions, while Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum’s backing remains marginal nationwide. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong does not register measurable committed support in any region under the model.

The poll also reveals elevated levels of non-disclosure in regions such as Bono East, Oti, Volta, and Ahafo, suggesting strategic silence or hesitation among party faithful in areas that could become critical battlegrounds as the race evolves.

Outlook

While the Global InfoAnalytics poll positions Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the early favourite among committed NPP voters, political observers note that endorsements, campaign momentum, and shifting internal party dynamics could still sway undecided and undisclosed voters. With key party milestones ahead, the contest for the NPP’s 2028 presidential ticket remains open—despite a clear front-runner setting the pace.
