Residents and businesses in eastern Accra are experiencing significant water supply interruptions following a major burst on a 42-inch transmission pipe on Monday, 19th January 2026, Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has confirmed.

In a press release GWL explained that the incident has disrupted water supply across multiple communities in the affected corridor, including parts of Tema Metropolis, Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, East Legon, Nungua, and Teshie.

“Our engineers and technical teams mobilized immediately upon detection of the fault and have been working around the clock to repair the damaged line

“Due to the size of the transmission main and the complexity of the repair, the restoration process requires careful handling to ensure safety, durability, and efficiency,” the company stated.

GWL further assured customers that every effort is being made to complete the repair work as quickly as possible and restore normal water supply.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience and understanding of our cherished customers,” the release added.

To support residents and essential service providers during the outage, GWL has made available contact channels including a toll-free line (0800 40000), phone lines (0302 2218240 / 0207385089 / 0207385090), and WhatsApp numbers (0555123393 / 0555155524). Customers are also encouraged to follow all GWL social media handles for real-time updates.

“Water supply will be restored immediately upon completion of the repair work,” the company said. “Further updates will be provided as the situation progresses.”

GWL has urged affected residents to remain patient and follow official updates as the technical team works to resolve the disruption.
