The management of Tamale Technical University has responded to the concerns of the final year students who completed their programme of studies in September 2021 and are still awaiting their graduation.
In a media interview, the General Secretary of the Tamale Technical University 202 Cohort, Alhassan Abdul Rauf, sought explanations from management for the delay in the graduation of the 2021 cohort even after a petition was submitted to the Registrar.
On Monday, October 17th, 2022, management of the university wrote in a memorandum announcing to the students and general public that the graduation ceremony for the 2021 graduating batch is slated for Saturday, November 12th, 2022.
However, Alhassan Abdul Rauf, however, expressed his disappointment following the release of another memo to graduands dated October 18, 2022, expecting all graduands to pay an amount of one hundred fifty Ghana cedis (GHC150.00) as a top-up for the following: printing of certificates, congregation brochure, refreshment, and academic gown.
The 2021 cohort who expressed their disagreement with the modalities of the graduation demanded the following: that graduation day should be on October 29th, 2022; that the graduation list must be out by the 21st day of October 2022; and that the fees for the graduation should be reduced to GH100.00 due to the economic crisis in the country and globally.
They further urged the board and management of the university to look into these matters and address them as a matter of urgency.
Reacting to the concerns, Osman Mubarik Abu, Director of Public Affairs, promised that management would release the list of students due for graduation by the close of Thursday, October 20, 2022.
Mr. Mubarik Abu advised the cohort that, going forward, they should channel their grievances to the appropriate body for further deliberation.
He, however, assured them of management’s response to their pleas even before their deadline.
