National Sports Authority (NSA) boss Dodzie Numekevor has been removed from his position after just six months in office as Director-General.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ordered the termination of his appointment on Tuesday, as stated in a letter dated September 17, 2024.
The letter, signed by Secretary to the President, Ambassador Nana Bediatuo Asante, did not provide reasons for the dismissal but directed Numekevor to hand over office to the Chairman of the NSA Governing Board.
Numekevor’s removal comes amid growing concerns about the poor management of the country’s sports facilities.
Recently, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) withdrew its approval for the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, citing technical infractions, including an unsuitable playing surface, following an inspection after Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola on September 5, 2024.
With only the Baba Yara Stadium available for international matches, some have called on the government to consider handing over the management of national sports facilities to private entities.
